Pay with Wero: dm becomes one of the first German retailers to introduce the European payment option in its online shop
August 24, 2026

New European payment option offers customers greater choice when shopping online
Karlsruhe, 25th of August 2026 - Customers can now pay for their purchases in the German dm online shop using Wero. By integrating the new payment method, dm is expanding its range of payment options and is among the first German retail companies to offer Wero in e-commerce.
Wero is a digital payment solution developed by the European Payments Initiative (EPI). The integration of Wero in the dm online shop is the result of close collaboration between dm, EPI and payment service provider Nexi. Together, the partners aim to provide customers with a modern, secure and convenient European payment option. Key factors behind the introduction include Wero’s ease of use and the growing relevance of European payment solutions for consumers.
With Wero, we are expanding our existing offering with another modern European payment option. At the same time, we are observing fundamental changes in the payments landscape. The future of payments will not be shaped by a single solution. Rather, we expect an interplay of European payment infrastructures, digital wallets and AI-supported shopping experiences. By introducing Wero at an early stage, we are embracing a development that could help shape digital commerce in Europe in the years ahead.
With dm, another leading retailer in Germany is choosing Wero – sending a strong signal for the further establishment of the European payment solution. A key factor in the success of any new payment method is that it is available at relevant merchants and easy for consumers to use in their everyday lives. As a payment service provider, Nexi enables merchant acceptance and at the same time helps retailers integrate the growing variety of digital payment options seamlessly into their existing payment landscape. The fact that dm is already the fourth major merchant we are connecting to Wero shows that Wero is increasingly moving from concept to actual use in German e-commerce.
The launch of Wero at dm marks another important step in the expansion of Wero in German e-commerce. Seeing a leading German retailer such as dm adopting Wero demonstrates the growing momentum behind a European payment solution built for both consumers and merchants. It also illustrates how European banks, payment providers and merchants are actively coming together to build a strong and competitive European payments ecosystem.
How paying with Wero works
Wero can be used directly via customers' existing bank account. Customers select Wero during checkout and then confirm the payment in their familiar banking app. No credit card or separate payment account is required. Payments are processed directly from account to account using instant bank transfers.
