Groupe BPCE carries out the first Wero e-commerce transactions in France, and rolls out access to the service to Banque Populaire and Caisse d'Epargne customers.
Brussels, Paris - 20 April 2026 – Groupe BPCE is taking a new step in the rollout of Wero, after successfully completing the first e-commerce transactions in France with customers from its Banque Populaire and Caisse d’Epargne networks and with retail brand Ecole du Ski Français (ESF). Groupe BPCE is also launching Wero within its e-commerce payment offering for merchants, enabling them to roll out this new online payment method.
The 13 million Banque Populaire and Caisse d’Epargne customers who use our online banking services will now be able to pay online on e-commerce websites that have deployed Wero. Access will begin in early May for 500,000 customers, with the objective of rolling out to all customers over the summer. Natively integrated into the Banque Populaire and Caisse d’Epargne applications, this new Wero feature will make it possible to pay for online purchases from a mobile phone or a computer.
Thanks to its expertise in merchant payment services, Groupe BPCE also supports merchants in integrating Wero as a payment method on their e-commerce websites. This is notably the case for Ecole du Ski Français (ESF), whose go-live of Wero on its multi-seller website ‘Mon séjour en montagne’ is imminent, following the successful completion of its first transactions.
With these first e-commerce transactions carried out in France with customers from our networks, we are entering a key phase in Wero’s development. Groupe BPCE is committed to a large-scale rollout, to support both Banque Populaire and Caisse d’Epargne customers and merchants in adopting the service. The stakes are high, at a time when payments sovereignty is becoming a strategic lever for the economy, and our objective is to make Wero a success across Europe.
With the first e-commerce transactions now completed in France by Groupe BPCE and its partners, Wero reaches another key milestone. Following Germany in late 2025 and Belgium in early 2026, the perspective to pay online using Wero in France is now becoming a reality — another significant step toward European sovereignty in payments. This is excellent news for the 53 million Wero users to date, and for more than 130 million Europeans who, by 2027, will be able to carry out cross-border transactions under our interoperability agreements with several European partners.
