How Wero’s Merchant-First Strategy is Key to Changing the Way Europe Pays

Wero, the innovative new pan-European digital wallet from EPI, is designed to simplify buying and selling across Europe. It’s already launched with person-to-person transfers in Belgium, France, and Germany, with e-commerce and point of sale payments—and more countries—coming soon to offer consumers a safe, seamless and secure shopping experience. Merchants of all sizes, both online and offline, will play a crucial role in Wero’s success.
After all, consumers can only choose a payment method if merchants offer it at checkout.
Let’s fix the broken payments ecosystem
Today’s fragmented payments environment simply isn’t working for merchants. Costs are rising, meaning merchants, now more than ever, must balance the fees and integration costs of every payment option against the value it offers. And while consumers are facing a bewildering choice at checkout, merchants are not always feeling the benefits of this competition in terms of the fees they are required to pay.
EPI is determined to create a payment solution that works for everyone. We have built a team
dedicated to engaging with and connecting all our stakeholders—and we have been talking to
merchants since long before Wero launched.
Wero Merchant Forums: The Cornerstone of Our Engagement Strategy
Our regular Merchant Forum events allow merchants to connect with EPI, its member banks, technical solutions providers, and each other, at a European level. The Forum includes representatives from companies of all sizes, with smaller businesses represented by their associations, and acts as a platform for feedback and updates on Wero’s progress. Its collaborative approach helps us remain aligned with merchant needs and expectations.
Inclusive Engagement
The inaugural Merchant Forum featured merchants who reached out to us during Wero’s early stages. Going forward, we will include companies which have already integrated Wero or are onboarding. Additionally, we will continue to reach out to new contacts to explain Wero and understand their needs.
The next Merchant Forum will be live streamed on 2nd April. We’re looking forward to the chance to build even deeper relationships and to continue creating a collaborative environment where merchants feel heard and valued.
The Merchant Forum Advisory Group
Charged with ensuring the Forum’s agenda stays relevant to the needs and concerns of merchants, the Merchant Forum Advisory Group comprises merchant associations and individual business representatives. It also ensures we hear merchant feedback, helping us stay attuned to the evolving needs of everyone from the largest multinationals to thousands of small European retailers and wholesalers.
Local community events
We are always eager to hear merchants’ thoughts on Wero and their ideas for making it even better, and our local community meetings provide a platform for discussing local topics with EPI. We’ve already held meetings in France, in Germany and Belgium. We’re looking forward to many more right across Europe as Wero develops and expands.
Expert Groups for focused discussions
Expert Groups facilitate focused discussions related to particular sectors and payment scenarios. For instance, our recent workshop with EV charging providers addressed how Wero’s consent-based payment model helps address specific needs and challenges for that sector. Through partnerships with industry experts and businesses of all sizes, we aim to ensure Wero addresses diverse needs for functionality, flexibility, fairness, and affordability. This collaboration will also simplify and reduce the bureaucratic burden of selling, both locally and across European borders.
Join us in shaping the future of European payments
Building, implementing, and refining a new payment method which will soon be in the pockets of millions of consumers in France, Belgium, Germany and beyond is a unique opportunity – and working with the merchant community is a key part of Wero’s strategy for success. To have your say in shaping the future of European payments, just complete this contact form. We’re looking forward to having you on board.
