norisbank introduces Wero - simple digital payments across Europe
Bonn, 6 August 2026 | norisbank is expanding its offering. The European payment app Wero is now available to norisbank customers, allowing them to send and receive money in real time to and from family and friends, as well as and paying conveniently in participating online shops — securely, quickly and entirely digitally. The app works without entering long IBANs or BICs and is as easy to use as sending a message from a smartphone.
“Following the successful launch at Deutsche Bank and Postbank, Wero offers our customers a modern and sovereign European payment alternative. As a direct bank, it is crucial for norisbank to make banking as simple as possible, even across national borders. Wero fits perfectly with our goal of providing fast and secure solutions for everyday life."
European payment standards are developing rapidly. With Wero, norisbank is an early adopter that combines security, efficiency and digital sovereignty. Wennrich adds: “For our customers, this means transparent processes, instant transactions and another innovative feature in norisbank’s digital current account.”
Wero continues to grow — more features to come
Wero is a digital payment solution launched inJuly 2024. It is operated by the European Payments Initiative (EPI), a body backed by an alliance of 18 major European banks and payment service providers. Wero enables customers to make instant transfers without entering an IBAN or BIC, as well as future retail transactions. Wero’s goal is to establish a unified mobile payment solution and a sovereign digital wallet for all of Europe.
Wero is expanding rapidly: Since autumn 2025, it has been possible to pay for goods and services with Wero ay participating online merchants, and future plans include the management of recurring payments – for example for subscriptions – as well as point-of-sale payments at brick-and-mortar retail stores. Additional value-added services are also in preparation, such as “Buy Now, Pay Later”, the integration of merchant loyalty programmes and functions for managing shared expenses.
The app is linked directly to the customer’s norisbank current account. Amounts are debited or credited immediately with no need for prior top-up. In future, Wero will also be integrated into the norisbank app to make digital payments even easier.
“Our customers expect simple solutions, and that is exactly what Wero delivers. The app fits seamlessly into everyday digital life and makes payments as straightforward as messaging. At the same time, Wero makes our current account even more attractive and strengthens norisbank’s overall package of a powerful account, modern services and attractive overnight money offerings."
“With the introduction of Wero at norisbank, our European network continues to grow. Our goal is to offer people and businesses in Europe a unified, secure and easy-to-use payment method, regardless of national borders. norisbank is an important part of this development and brings us closer to our goal of a pan-European payment system.”
