The European way to pay: Unzer enables Wero for first merchants

Berlin, November 19, 2025 – Unzer, a leading payments and software provider serving small and mid-sized businesses across Germany, Austria, Luxemburg and the Nordics, has gone live with Wero, Europe’s newest digital payment solution. Together, Unzer and EPI (the initiative behind Wero), are now inviting merchants to be among the first to adopt this innovative payment method and gain a competitive advantage through a single connection via Unzer’s integrated platform, UnzerOne.

Wero launched in 2024 as a mobile-first wallet for instant account-to-account payments, backed by more than 16 leading European banks and payment service providers. Available for e-commerce and mobile payments, Wero will gradually expand to in-store acceptance, offering a seamless payment experience without the need for multiple providers or technical complexity.

Bringing Wero to our merchants marks the next era of digital payments in Europe. With the first transactions already processed, our merchants now have an additional payment method to choose from, that is local, fast, and securely created by and for Europe.

Welcoming Unzer’s merchants to Wero brings us closer to a truly seamless, European payment ecosystem. Together, we’re empowering businesses and consumers with a standard that is simple, connected, and trusted.

Seamless, Fast, and Future-Ready Payments for Merchants

Unzer is one of the first to bring Wero e-commerce payments live in Germany. With a single, straightforward setup powered by Unzer, customers can pay securely within seconds using their banking app or the Wero app. Funds are received directly in euros, and transactions are automatically recorded — ensuring a secure, hassle-free process without extra paperwork or manual reconciliation.

Building on this milestone, Unzer will expand Wero acceptance in 2026 to additional use cases such as in-store payments, subscriptions, and loyalty programs. The roll-out is also planned to include enablement of Wero for Unzer’s Luxembourgish customer base.
